Richie was onstage Wednesday night in Saint Paul, Minnesota, performing “Dancing on the Ceiling” when he appeared to become dizzy and had to sit down.
He continued with “Three Times a Lady” before leaving the stage for intermission. The singer did not return to finish the show.
In a statement obtained by ABC7 Chicago, Live Nation said Richie was advised by doctors to rest and recover, prompting the postponement of two upcoming dates: Friday, June 26, in Chicago, Illinois, and Saturday, June 27, in Columbus, Ohio. The statement said Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire are expected to resume the tour Tuesday, June 30, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans,” the statement read, adding that rescheduled dates would be announced soon.
Richie’s team has not disclosed a diagnosis, though he was reportedly taken to a hospital as a precaution.
