Houston TV meteorologist fired after viral rant against bosses, not winning an Emmy: 'Maybe you've read the headlines'

A Houston meteorologist has parted ways with KPRC-TV after a widely shared social media post in which she criticized her workplace, colleagues and the industry recognition she said had long eluded her.

Brittany Begley, 44, confirmed on Instagram that she is “no longer” with the station following the viral rant, adding, “And for that, I’m truly grateful.”

“Maybe you’ve read the headlines?” Begley wrote, while also saying she did not “disagree” with the company’s decision to end her employment.

“I’m proving to you that I operate with integrity through my actions and the emails showing how hard I worked to bring positive impact to KPRC,” she said, adding that she “wouldn’t say it if I couldn’t prove it.”

In the same post, Begley said she is hoping to move into a “bigger role in TV” where she can “advocate for people like me who started from the ground up.”

The controversy began earlier this month when Begley posted a lengthy Instagram message expressing frustration over her career, saying that despite years of work, she had never received an Emmy, one of television journalism’s most recognized honors.

“Never won an Emmy because the markets I worked in never thought traffic reporting was worthy of one,” Begley wrote.

She also took aim at the demands of the job and the work-life balance she experienced at the station, saying she was “tired of coming home to an empty refrigerator.”

Coworkers would allegedly come into work “only to turn on the TV and watch a team normalize bad behavior: consistently late, not even mic’d up ten minutes before a show, then put it on air as a segment,” she moaned.

“And I know I’m not alone. A lot of people inside and outside this industry feel exactly like I do.”

After her post went viral, Begley insisted that she didn’t mean to insult her colleagues — and only wanted to spread awareness about mental health.

Prior to joining KPRC, she worked at networks in California, South Carolina and Ohio.
