Chicago shooting: 2 people found fatally shot on West Cahill Terrace on Northwest Side, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — Two men were killed after a daytime dispute in Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood turned violent, with both victims struck by multiple rounds, police said.

Police were called about 3:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of Forest Preserve Drive and Addison Street. Officers found the two men behind a home on West Cahill Terrace, each suffering from several gunshot wounds. Authorities said one victim, age 20, had also been shot in the head.

Both victims were rushed to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition, but they later succumbed to their injuries.

Neighbors said the gunfire appeared to come after an intense confrontation outside. Nearby resident Andy Jekiel recalled the moments leading up to the shooting.

“It was like the Wild Wild West. They shot each other,” Jekiel said.

Jekiel said the disturbance began with people yelling before the sound of shots rang out.

“They were shouting at one another,” he said.

“It was an argument going on. We heard something going off. Then all of a sudden, pop, pop, pop, pop. I thought it was fireworks.”

Crime scene tape surrounded several apartment buildings for hours as investigators worked the scene.

Jekiel also said he heard there may have been multiple weapons involved.

“I think there were three guns laying down on the floor from what I understand,” he said.

Authorities have not confirmed whether any firearms were recovered at the scene, nor have they identified a motive. Police also said they have no information to share about a possible suspect.

Neighbors expressed shock over the violence.

“Over an argument. They can’t come back. They’re gone. Life is so precious. It’s sad. To be honest with you, it’s terrible,” Jekiel said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
