Ukraine slams Moscow with another massive drone assault

Ukraine launched a major overnight drone assault on Moscow, officials said, hitting one of the Russian capital region’s largest satellite communications hubs for the second time in a week.

The strike came late Monday during a broader wave of cross-border attacks, with Kyiv sending more than 60 drones toward Moscow as Russia said it intercepted or destroyed 419 drones across 18 regions.

Among the sites targeted was the Dubna communications center near Moscow, located roughly 310 miles from the Ukrainian border, which has now been struck again in recent days.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the facility was used for “reconnaissance” and to help coordinate the activities of Russia’s occupation forces in Ukraine.

“Recently, our Defense Forces of Ukraine already reached four such Russian centers, not only in the Moscow region but also in the Vladimir region,” Zelensky wrote on X.

“Step by step, we are implementing our plan of long-range sanctions and making it as difficult as possible for the aggressor state to carry out its invasion operations against Ukraine and the occupation of our territories.”

Ukraine has intensified its long-range pressure campaign against the Kremlin this year, with drone strikes around Moscow becoming increasingly frequent and adding to domestic unease in Russia over Vladimir Putin’s war.

The attacks have largely centered on Russia’s oil and energy infrastructure, and Putin acknowledged Monday that the country is facing fuel shortages tied to the ongoing war against Ukraine.

The intense strikes have reportedly begun to whittle away part of Moscow’s defenses, with the Ukrainian military attributing a hole in the “enemy’s air defense system” for successful strikes on the capital and St. Petersburg.

The Kremlin slammed the latest attacks on Moscow, telling reporters that the drone assault led to the deaths of civilians, including children.

Moscow regional official Andrey Vorobyov said a 6-month-old baby was killed Tuesday when a drone crashed into a home southeast of the capital.
