Video shows moments before Army veteran was fatally shot in Walmart parking lot dispute

A disturbing cellphone recording shows the fatal instant a Florida Army veteran was shot amid a dispute over a parking spot at a Walmart, officials said.

Bart Diguglielmo, 62, was killed after gunfire erupted at about 12:28 p.m. Tuesday outside the Walmart on West McNab Road in North Lauderdale, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives said Diguglielmo and an adult woman had gotten into a confrontation connected to a parking space shortly before the shooting occurred.

According to BSO, the woman stayed at the location, spoke with investigators and claimed she opened fire to protect herself.

Authorities have not publicly identified her. Homicide detectives said the findings will be sent to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, which will decide whether any criminal charges should be pursued.

Officials have not disclosed further information about what sparked the altercation, nor have they said whether investigators view the woman’s self-defense account as credible. Prosecutors are expected to evaluate the completed case file before making a charging decision.

Video obtained by News Agency shows the confrontation leading up to the shooting.

Additional cellphone footage obtained by Local 10 News appears to show Diguglielmo walking toward the woman, who appears to be holding a cellphone in one hand. As he approaches, she raises her other arm, appearing to point a handgun at him. After a brief standoff, a single gunshot rings out.

Footage from another angle, recorded without sound, appears to show Diguglielmo doubling over at the waist before lowering himself to the ground as what appears to be blood becomes visible through the front of his shirt.

A third angle shows the pair engaged in what appears to be an argument after a vehicle pulled out of a nearby parking space. The footage appears to show the woman backing away with the handgun pointed at Diguglielmo as he raises his hands.

The video ends with the woman remaining at the scene until Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived and detained her for questioning.

Diguglielmo was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
