DeKalb, Illinois news: Maurice Kemp II, charged with physically, sexually assaulting 3 women downtown DeKalb, police say

DEKALB, Ill. (WLS) — A man who police said was naked when he was taken into custody has been arrested and charged after at least three women were physically or sexually assaulted in downtown DeKalb, Illinois.

Officers were called to the DeKalb Public Library at 329 Oak Street around 1:15 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports that a man was physically and sexually assaulting a woman, police said.

As officers responded, additional 911 calls came in reporting that another woman was being attacked near the DeKalb Farmers’ Market.

Police said they found a suspect in the downtown area. By the time he was arrested, officials said, he had removed his clothing and was completely naked.

Investigators located three female victims in the area who had been sexually or physically assaulted. Two of them were transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital for what officials described as a “narcotic medical evaluation.”

Authorities identified the man arrested as 33-year-old Maurice Kemp II.

The DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office approved several charges against Kemp, including attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of attempted criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two counts of criminal sexual abuse.
