Birmingham pip West Ham to Fry

Birmingham City have beaten West Ham to the signing of defender Dael Fry.

Fry, 28, has agreed a three-year deal after departing Middlesbrough on a free transfer. He made nearly 300 appearances for his hometown club and captained Boro last season as they reached the Championship play-off final.

He had a number of clubs showing interest but has chosen Birmingham’s project.

Hull in talks for Tuanzebe

Palhinha confirms he’s off after saving Spurs

Tottenham saviour Joao Palhinha has confirmed he won’t be signing permanently for the club following the end of his loan from Bayern Munich.

Manager Roberto de Zerbi had spoken positively about signing the Portuguese in the wake of Spurs’ last day victory over Everton which was thanks to Palhinha’s first half goal.

However, Spurs have since broken their club record twice to sign first, Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, then Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, for a combined £185million.

Palhinha is increasingly likely to return to his former club Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.

As part of a message to Spurs on Instagram, the 30-year-old said: ‘Representing Tottenham has had a profound impact on my life, not only professionally but also personally, and it is something I will carry with me forever. I always tried to repay, in the best way I could, all the affection, respect and trust you showed me, both on and off the pitch.

‘As I have said before, what truly defines a great institution and a great football club is its supporters. Players, managers and directors come and go, but the fans remain. You are the ones who keep the flame of this club burning, season after season….’

He played 45 times for Spurs last season, playing a key role in the final part of the campaign in avoiding relegation.

Liverpool stopper Ike, 15, moves to Salford

Liverpool goalkeeping prospect Godwin Ike has joined Salford City.

The 15-year-old had been with Liverpool for seven years when he was first signed as part of their Under 9s squad.

He took to Instagram in May to post a farewell saying: ‘I have made priceless memories, learnt valuable lessons and have played with teammates that have turned into my brothers for life. I would like to thank all the staff within the academy that have helped me throughout my journey, I would like to wish my teammates the best of luck for the seasons ahead.’

Salford are developing a strong reputation for helping to bring on youngsters and Ike is understood to have signed for them despite competition from clubs higher up the leagues.

Como had a bid rebuffed by Chelsea but the Stamford Bridge club would consider offers around £35million.

EFL clubs battling for Man City hotshot, 19

Manchester City goalscoring prospect Matty Warhurst is poised to leave with a number of clubs jostling for his signature.

The 19-year-old centre forward has been prolific through the youth system, scoring 61 goals in 97 games.

Now in the final year of his contract at City, he is looking to make a breakthrough into senior football.

Darlow weighing up offers from Premier League trio

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow has offers from Everton, Manchester United and Leeds United as he contemplates his next step.

The 35-year-old is a free agent after his contract ran down at Elland Road and enjoyed a strong season last campaign finishing as first choice after dislodging Lucas Perri as No1.

Darlow made 24 appearances last season and also had talks with Tottenham prior to them signing Martin Dubravka.

Leeds are pushing to renew terms as they want him to stay, though that will raise further doubts about Perri’s future while Illan Meslier is also out of contract and hoping to sign for Arsenal.

Leeds have also joined Aston Villa by enquiring after Parma and Japan keeper Zion Suzuki.

Manchester United are also keen on Wales international Darlow, but want to sell Altay Bayindir first to give them more financial headroom. Bayindir has interest from Besiktas, among others.

Everton have also come into play for Darlow as they want someone who can push Jordan Pickford further.

Stade Rennais make move for Mayenda

Stade Rennais have made a £22million offer for Sunderland forward Eliezer Mayenda.

The 21-year-old had limited game time last season and is open to moving to play more regularly.

Porto and Real Betis had also shown interest, but Stade Rennais have firmed up their interest with a bid for the Spain U21 international and talks are advancing today.

Sunderland bought Mayenda from Sochaux for just under £1m and the French side are understood to have a sell-on clause.

Mayenda scored Sunderland’s first goal in the 2025 EFL Championship play-off final at Wembley, equalising before they went on to beat Sheffield United 2-1 and secure promotion to the Premier League.

He then scored on his Premier League debut for Sunderland, the first goal in a 3–0 win over West Ham United.

United talks over Summerville

Manchester United have held exploratory talks with West Ham for winger Crysencio Summerville.

As Daily Mail Sport previously reported last month, Netherlands international Summerville is on United’s list but the current expectation is that Marcus Rashford would have to depart before they move for another winger.

United’s priority remains to add another midfielder after missing out on Mateus Fernandes who left West Ham for Tottenham this week in an £85million move.
