Kentucky woman allegedly locked man, 91, inside car in 101 degree day

A Kentucky woman is accused of leaving a 91-year-old man trapped inside his car during sweltering 101-degree weather after he allegedly declined to buy her cigarettes.

Nikki Reed Hoskins, 37, was arrested last Thursday in East Bernstadt, roughly 75 miles south of Lexington, after authorities said she locked the elderly man in his vehicle and removed the keys, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was left stranded on the roadway in triple-digit heat and called 911 at around 1.15pm for help.

He told authorities that Hoskins, who is from East Bernstadt, abandoned him in the car “because he wouldn’t buy her cigarettes.”

Deputies later responded to Hoskins’ residence on Littontown Road, about four miles from the scene, but said she repeatedly refused to come outside.

Law enforcement eventually went inside the home and located her hiding in a bedroom.

As deputies took her into custody, Hoskins allegedly struck one of the officers before she was arrested.

Authorities said Hoskins appeared intoxicated, noting that her speech was slurred and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot.
