Celebrity stylist Law Roach talks season 22 of 'Project Runway' on Hulu and Disney+

NEW YORK — Time to “make it work” once again: “Project Runway” has officially returned.

Season 22 introduces a fresh lineup of aspiring designers, each eager to break through in the fashion industry, as they face judgment from a high-profile panel that includes celebrity stylist Law Roach.

The hit fashion competition is back with Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia, Tyra Banks and Roach at the judges’ table, while Season 4 champion Christian Siriano returns to guide the contestants as mentor.

Roach, returning for his second season as a judge, says direct feedback comes with the territory.

“It’s tough love,” he told entertainment reporter Joelle Garguilo. “It’s tough love, and it’s a real snapshot of the fashion industry.”

Roach has become one of fashion’s most recognizable power players, earning the title of image architect for his ability to shape unforgettable style moments. He is widely known for creating many of Zendaya’s standout red-carpet looks, a collaboration and friendship that began early in both of their careers.

Garguilo also asked Roach about the recent buzz surrounding his comment that he missed Zendaya’s wedding.

“No, I’m never supposed to say anything, but that’s the beauty of me,” Roach said. “I kind of just say the truth and what’s on my mind. The internet was in an uproar that they missed the wedding, but, you know, if you missed it, you missed it.”

The stylist also weighed in on a few current fashion trends.

Asked whether butter yellow is in or out, Roach offered a quick response.

“Butter yellow is still in,” he said. “And you know who loves butter yellow? Ariana Grande.”

His take on socks with Birkenstocks was less enthusiastic.

“That doesn’t even sound right,” he said.

As for matching outfits with pets?

“Ew,” Roach said.

When it comes to “Project Runway,” Roach said what excites him most is discovering what’s next in fashion.

“For me, it’s all about innovation and what’s next,” he said. “When I see the runway, I’m hoping to see something I want to pluck off the runway and put on one of my clients.”

Roach also shared a message for young people chasing big dreams, especially those who may lack confidence.

“You really have to see yourself living the life that you want,” he said. “If you can see it and believe it, you can achieve it. It’s really the reason I feel like I’m successful.”

When Garguilo noted that simply being himself has inspired others to pursue their own goals, Roach appeared touched by the sentiment.

“That means the world to me,” he said.
