ROCKFORD, Ill. — Authorities in Rockford, Illinois, said Friday that a man taken into custody after a police pursuit in Los Angeles on Thursday was wanted in connection with a Rockford homicide.
Police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Isaiah Rucker. He was arrested after the chase ended in a rollover crash in Hollywood.
Officials have not yet released additional information about the murder investigation.
The pursuit involved Los Angeles Police Department officers tracking a vehicle through Hollywood before the driver crashed.
Video from the scene Thursday showed the suspect lying on the ground in handcuffs after witnesses described the chase as short but dangerous.
Additional footage appeared to show LAPD officers removing the suspect from the overturned vehicle.
Avias Alcantara, a construction worker, said he was having lunch in his truck when the pursuit suddenly passed nearby.
“Everything happened fast … it was crazy,” he said.
According to Alcantara, the suspect’s vehicle, followed by numerous police units, crashed into a laundry truck at an intersection before continuing down the street.
“The car hit the small van, and then they started going on the street and then he hit the fence on the house and roll over,” Alcantara said.
Alcantara said the suspect appeared unable to walk after the crash and was removed from the overturned vehicle by officers before being transported by ambulance to a hospital.
The crash occurred in an area where Alcantara said he and other construction workers typically spend their lunch breaks.
“I probably wouldn’t be telling this story right now,” Alcantara said.
