A tourist was seriously injured at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming after a large bull bison charged and hurled him into the air in a dramatic encounter captured on video.
The unidentified man was tossed roughly 8 feet during the attack at Bridge Bay Campground, according to Cowboy State Daily.
He had been walking with his grandson when the powerful wild animal suddenly turned aggressive.
Footage from the scene shows the man trying to get away by running around a small stand of pine trees. Moments earlier, the bull bison had been rolling in the dirt, apparently taking a dust bath.
The situation escalated quickly when the bison charged toward the two visitors, striking the older bearded man with its head and sending him airborne.
“I was just trying to get some dramatic footage of that bison having a fit. It’s changed my idea of what to expect from these guys at this time of year, because I would not have predicted that happening,” Montana-based photographer Mike MacLeod, who captured the images, told Cowboy State Daily.
MacLeod said the animal had been moving through the campground before the attack. “He [the bison] started walking through the campground. He was coming up to this group of kids, who were taking pictures on their cellphones from a good distance away, and then the buffalo charged these kids,” he said.
No update has been released on the condition of the man tossed by the bison.
