A Mercedes driver traveling the wrong way came terrifyingly close to crushing an NYPD detective before plowing into an Audi and hurling it into a Brooklyn deli on Sunday, dramatic video shows.
Police said the 24-year-old suspect was speeding in a white luxury car along Henry Street in Carroll Gardens, only steps from an NYPD stationhouse, when he narrowly missed the detective and crashed into the other vehicle.
The black Audi was knocked onto the curb and sent smashing into the corner deli, breaking its windows, according to surveillance footage obtained by The Post.
The detective who had just avoided being hit quickly moved in to assist other officers as they arrested the erratic driver at the scene.
“We just heard a huge brake. … All of a sudden, I saw a car flying and hit my store,” Khalid Sarsour, the 63-year-old owner of the damaged Garden Gourmet Deli and Grill, told The Post.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep because of some of the trauma,” the shaken shop owner said as he swept broken glass from outside the deli.
Emergency medical workers took the Audi driver and a young woman who had been riding in the Mercedes to the hospital, both in stable condition. No additional injuries were reported.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
