Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom appears to be the central force stirring up trouble in the first Doomsday trailer, but the footage also suggests Marvel’s next massive crossover will not be short on hero-versus-hero tension. The X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the (New) Avengers all seem to be pulled into conflict before fully recognizing the bigger threat rising out of Latveria. Thor, played once again by Chris Hemsworth, looks like one of the few characters who understands that the real priority should be uniting against Doom. Still, even the God of Thunder may need help convincing everyone to stand down — and Steve Rogers’ return, with Chris Evans back in the mix, could be the emotional spark that finally brings Marvel’s fractured heroes together.
From the first look, Doomsday is shaping up to be another enormous Marvel spectacle, one that leans heavily into fan nostalgia for the studio’s earlier X-Men era while pushing the MCU toward its next major chapter. Marvel Studios is likely holding back more reveals for San Diego Comic-Con later this week, where new Doomsday details could send anticipation even higher. The film is currently set to arrive in theaters on December 18, the same date as Dune Part 3, setting up a major box office showdown for moviegoers.
