According to police, the incident started at about 7:15 a.m. when Santa Monica Police Department investigators tried to arrest the driver of a black Range Rover allegedly tied to a road rage incident from a couple of weeks earlier.

The driver left the freeway in Koreatown and continued racing through city streets, at times swerving into oncoming lanes and putting morning commuters at risk.

As the pursuit moved into the San Gabriel Valley shortly before 8 a.m., the Range Rover reportedly topped speeds of more than 100 mph.

The chase came to an end in Montebello when the driver entered a center median and a patrol vehicle following behind rammed the SUV. Several officers then surrounded the Range Rover and arrested the suspect, according to the report.

Authorities have not identified the suspect or disclosed details about why he was being pursued.
