Celebrity MasterChef fans were in hysterics last night after Strictly Come Dancing favourite Oti Mabuse stumbled over the pronunciation of “cumin”.
The 29-year-old dancer had been paired with fellow contestant Dame Zandra Rhodes for a challenge at London Zoo on the BBC series. While preparing a marinated chicken dish for the zoo’s keepers, Oti made the accidental slip-up.
Talking through the spices she had added to the chicken, she mentioned “cumin” — but her pronunciation came out rather differently, leaving many viewers convinced it sounded unintentionally risqué.
The moment quickly lit up Twitter, with hundreds of amused fans sharing their reactions. One viewer joked: “I think I’ll avoid the chicken.”

The episode marked the second night for the celebrity hopefuls, who were sent into professional kitchens and asked to work in pairs to prepare food for staff at London Zoo.
Oti and Sandra decided on a chicken dish and you see her add in spices and marinate the chicken, before she turned to the camera and said: ‘I’ve kind of used a lot of spices so we want to make it feel really full of flavours.
‘So I’ve put some cumin, I’ve put some Thai sauces, and I’ve put tumeric.
‘I put salt, I put pepper, and a lot of oil just to keep the moisture in so that it doesn’t dry.’

However Oti pronounced the spice the American way – calling it ‘c**-in’. The correct way to say it in the UK pronunciation is “cue-min”.
Fans of the show found it hilarious, with saying: ‘She say cummin? She meant cumin, yh?
One more said: ‘I beg your pardon @OtiMabuse – you put what in the chicken?’
While another said that they were going with another choice of food: ‘Unfortunate choice of filling for the chicken Oti….I’m going for the Thai curry now.’
