Biker Group’s DTLA Takeover Near Crypto.com Arena Sparks Alarm

A Southern California biking group is preparing for a large street takeover near downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, with organizers urging riders — and anyone else on wheels — to show up.

In an Instagram post, bike clothing brand The Cruizers invited young riders to gather Saturday, July 25, at Crypto.com Arena, the venue formerly known as Staples Center, saying the Young Life Tour would be “pulling up to the land.”

“If you outside, you might end up legendary,” the post said.

“Come on some player s**t… or Stay that funky a** home. Swing what you bring… anything on wheels is welcome…..” it added.

The planned meetup area sits near several major downtown landmarks, including the Los Angeles Convention Center and the Peacock Theater.

A separate post on X included video from a previous bike event showing riders blocking an Los Angeles freeway near James M. Wood Boulevard while vehicles sat stopped behind them. It was not immediately clear when that incident occurred.

“Felonious hooligans are planning a massive takeover of Los Angeles streets and freeways Saturday,” the X post read.

“I hope you’re sitting down, but nothing will be done as they wreak havoc and create chaos throughout the city.”

During a recent takeover on the Fourth of July at Newport Beach, more than 400 people were arrested when celebrations descended into chaos.

Youths and minors made up the majority of those taken into custody, and nearly half of those arrested were from out of state.

A violent takeover in downtown LA earlier this year spiraled into chaos, with participants causing thousands of dollars in damage to the luxury Circa LA Apartments across the street from the downtown Convention Center.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to almost 700 street takeovers last year, Chief Jim McDonnell said in an appearance on KTLA. Cops made 1,700 traffic stops related to the vehicular mayhem and issued more than 1,700 citations, he said.

In all, police made nearly 300 arrests at takeovers last year, said McDonnell, and the department is “trending in that direction again this year.”

The social-media fueled takeovers often pop off on weekend nights throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties.

The downtown LA event appears to not be sanctioned by the city so it is unclear what LAPD is planning to do about it.

The California Post reached out to LAPD for more information.
