F1 2026 Standings: Updated Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship After Hungarian Grand Prix

McLaren’s Lando Norris claimed his first win of the season after a tense and eventful Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.

The defending champion began Sunday’s Formula 1 race from pole position, but his advantage disappeared almost immediately when teammate Oscar Piastri made the better start and swept into the lead, controlling the early stages of the Grand Prix.

Piastri’s race began to unravel after he stopped from the lead for his second pit stop. Once back on track, the Australian was delayed in traffic before a costly collision with the lapped Carlos Sainz on lap 39. The contact cost Piastri several seconds and opened the door for Norris, who used the overcut on the following lap to move into the net race lead.

Piastri’s disappointment deepened soon afterward when a gearbox problem forced him to retire from second place with just 13 laps remaining, ending his hopes of a podium finish in Hungary.

Norris went on to take the checkered flag by 15.080 seconds over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, while Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured third place to complete the podium.

Charles Leclerc followed in fourth place in his Ferrari while teammate Lewis Hamilton took fifth, having battled for a podium finish before getting hit with a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane.

Isack Hadjar netted sixth in the other Red Bull ahead of title contender George Russell of Mercedes, who dropped 12 positions from P6 on the opening lap to eventually cross the line in seventh.

The Racing Bulls duo of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad secured eighth and 10th respectively, with Nico Hulkenberg scoring his first points of the season for Audi, finishing P9.

With 11 races now completed, Antonelli heads into the summer break leading the championship by 50 points over second-place Hamilton.

Russell sits in third, nine points behind Hamilton, with 59 points separating him from the leader.

Leclerc remains fourth with 138 points to his name, while Norris’ win in Hungary brought his points tally to 128, strengthening his fifth place in the standings.
