ESPN: Wife of Kansas City Chiefs’ Eric Bieniemy Shot at Couple’s Home

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot Sunday night at the family’s Virginia home, and sources told ESPN the couple’s son was the alleged shooter.

Mia Bieniemy, 57, remains hospitalized in stable condition, a source said. Authorities in Loudoun County, Virginia, confirmed that a woman was receiving treatment for “serious injuries” after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, though officials did not publicly identify her.

Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said. Sources told ESPN that Mia Bieniemy was struck in the chest and arm.

Police said Elijah Bieniemy is being held without bond at a Loudoun County detention center.

Eric Bieniemy left Kansas City Chiefs training camp and was absent from Monday’s practice. He had been with the team Sunday in St. Joseph, Missouri, on the Missouri Western State campus, where the Chiefs held their second practice of camp.

Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Paul said deputies were called at 7:32 p.m. ET Sunday to a reported shooting at a residence in the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia.

In a brief statement, the Chiefs said they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” but the organization did not release additional information.

Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs earlier this year as offensive coordinator, resuming the role he previously held from 2018 through 2022.
