Big Bear Bald Eagle Jackie Improves After Setback, Remains Critical at Ojai Raptor Center

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. — Jackie, the well-known Big Bear bald eagle, is still in intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center, where veterinarians said Monday that her condition remains stable but critical.

The beloved eagle, known to thousands of Big Bear nest watchers as one half of the Jackie and Shadow pair, has been under medical care since she was found on the ground near Big Bear Lake following a confrontation with two younger eagles. Veterinarians said she was anemic and had kidney-related inflammation, signs that may explain why she was already weakened before the attack.
