An armed bystander stepped in as a gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out in Twin Falls, Idaho, a dramatic confrontation captured on video and described by witnesses at the scene.
The unsettling footage appears to show a man carrying a handgun trading shots with the attacker outside the busy restaurant.
Police said two people were killed and seven others were injured. Investigators believe the gunman later died by suicide.
Witness Lane Koehn, who recorded the incident from his vehicle, said the armed citizen’s response may have bought critical seconds for customers and employees to escape the crowded burger restaurant.
Koehn, 34, told KPTV he was stopped at a traffic light near the In-N-Out when he saw a person armed with an AR-style rifle emerge from the drive-thru area. Moments later, another man began firing at the rifleman with a pistol.
As the chaos unfolded, Koehn said he saw a female In-N-Out employee who appeared to be bleeding from the chest being pulled across the parking lot by another uniformed worker.
Koehn said he, the armed bystander and the employee remained with the injured worker until emergency crews reached the scene.
“She was pretty bad off, but I don’t know. I hope she made it,” Koehn told KPTV.
Police are yet to announce the identity and motive of the deceased gunman.
