Police have named the man accused of carrying out Saturday’s deadly shooting at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, and said the attack was stopped in part by an off-duty state trooper and an armed bystander who fired back.
Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks identified the suspected shooter as 24-year-old Chad Williams. Authorities said Williams killed an employee and a customer before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Investigators believe Williams carried out the shooting by himself. His body was later discovered near the restaurant, police said.
“We want to take a moment and commend the actions of the off-duty officer and the citizen and their heroic action to stop this incident,” Hicks said at a Sunday news conference. “We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties.”

In all, three people were killed and seven others were injured in the exchange of gunfire, city spokesperson Josh Palmer said earlier.
Officials said two injured victims have since been released from the hospital. Three others are listed in stable condition, while two remain in critical condition.
