North Carolina Shooting Leaves Multiple People Dead: Official

Several people have died and at least one other person was taken to a hospital after authorities reported a mass shooting in the Prospect Hill area of North Carolina.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said it was called in after the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office requested help with “an early morning mass shooting on Brooks Road in Prospect Hills, North Carolina.”

A Caswell County official later told WGHP that multiple victims were killed in what investigators currently believe was an isolated incident. The official said at least one person was hospitalized, and authorities had not identified a suspect.

According to an earlier Facebook update from the state bureau, the shooting happened at about 8:30 a.m., prompting an immediate response from Caswell County deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Officials said in a previous statement that there was “no threat to the general public at this time,” while noting that the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office was continuing to gather details about the case.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
