A brush fire ignited Saturday afternoon in Ventura County, breaking out shortly after 1 p.m. near the California Tactical Academy in Holser Canyon, close to the Lake Piru area.
The blaze, now being referred to as the Holser Fire, has scorched roughly 167 acres, according to wildfire tracking service Watch Duty.
Crews battling the Ventura County wildfire are making “excellent progress” toward containment, the Ventura County Fire Department public information officer said in an update posted on X.
On the ground, firefighters are laying hose lines across the area and working to hold the fire’s perimeter as they push to keep the flames from spreading further.

From above, air tankers are continuing to drop fire retardant, while helicopters are targeting hotspots with water drops and assisting crews operating in terrain that is difficult to reach, according to the VCFD PIO.
More than 200 firefighters and 80 fire engines have been assigned to the Holser Fire response, officials said.

The fire is near the California Tactical Academy, a 1,500-acre shooting range. Crews are still working on putting out the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Cal Fire.
