MICANOPY, Fla. – A Gainesville woman was taken into custody Thursday after authorities said she entered an occupied Micanopy residence and stole property from the home.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was called to a residence on SE CR 234 at about 5:31 p.m. on August 7. The victim reported that 38-year-old Estephania Andrea Lucado had been discovered taking items from inside the home’s screened porch. The victim also told deputies that Lucado had allegedly stolen from the property before.
A responding deputy reportedly spotted Lucado as she was leaving the property while carrying food items that still felt cold, as if they had recently been removed from a refrigerator. Authorities said Lucado attempted to hand the items over to the deputy and claimed she had not done anything wrong because she had not yet taken them off the property.
Lucado allegedly declined to provide her name and would not answer the deputy’s questions.
Lucado, listed in court records with a Gainesville address, is facing charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling, theft, and resisting an officer without violence. She has no local criminal history. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set her bail at $54,000.
