Meet Peregrine Pearson, Sophie Turner’s Aristocrat Flame

The aristocrat photographed in a steamy kiss with Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner comes from one of Britain’s wealthiest landed families, with a reported fortune exceeding £224million ($270million), and was previously in a relationship with King Charles’ goddaughter. Peregrine Pearson, 29, is the eldest son and heir of Michael Pearson, the 4th Viscount Cowdray, a former film producer with major ties to the Pearson media dynasty. Known in society circles as Perry, he owns a £5million ($6million) home in Chelsea, while his father’s vast West Sussex estate includes a 22-bedroom mansion set across 16,500 acres, complete with 10 polo pitches.

A witness who saw Sophie Turner and Peregrine Pearson in Paris said the pair appeared to arrive together at a chauffeur pick-up point outside the station, adding that it looked as though they may have travelled in on the Eurostar from London. Turner, whose fortune is estimated at around £10million ($12million), is certainly wealthy in her own right, but Pearson’s family assets place him in an entirely different financial league. At the heart of the family estate is Cowdray Park Polo Club, a celebrated venue with 10 pitches that stages more than 450 matches a year.

Cowdray Park is best known for hosting the annual Gold Cup, widely regarded as Europe’s most prestigious polo tournament and an event that has drawn royal players including Prince William and Prince Harry. The main Cowdray House was purchased in 1908 by Peregrine’s great-great-grandfather, Weetman Dickinson Pearson, and sits amid 120 acres of formal gardens and woodland. It replaced an earlier Tudor manor built by the Montague family, which was destroyed by fire in 1793.

In 2009, Lord and Lady Cowdray were reported to have considered selling the estate for £25million ($30million), but ultimately decided they could not let the historic property go. Instead, the family shifted its future toward hospitality and luxury events, with Cowdray Hall later becoming a wellness destination. Today, it offers retreats, spiritual workshops and weekly classes, while its chapel is used for yoga, Pilates and meditation sessions.

Despite being heir to one of the country’s most famous polo estates, Peregrine has previously acknowledged that he does not yet play the sport himself. Speaking to The Telegraph in 2018, he said he was taking lessons, explaining that he had grown up riding and could see polo becoming a bigger part of his life in the coming years. The same report noted that he had begun taking a more hands-on interest in the running of the estate, shadowing chief executive Jonathan Russell to better understand the business of the polo club. “It’s great to be able to observe it from a distance and see what my future role is going to be,” he said at the time.

Peregrine has also spoken candidly about the fact that his future children are unlikely to grow up inside Cowdray House, now that it functions primarily as an events venue. Rather than viewing that as a loss, he suggested it was a practical solution for a property of such scale. “Having heard the stress of managing these type of houses, it’s the perfect compromise,” he told The Telegraph. He added that the house remains a vital part of the local community and an important employer, while no longer being a financial burden to run — with the added benefit that he can still use it whenever he wishes.

Before being linked to Sophie Turner, Peregrine dated Princess Maria-Olympia, whom he began seeing in 2020. Speculation about the couple’s future grew over the summer when he was noticeably absent from the Chelsea-based model’s 27th birthday celebrations in July. Following their split, Olympia, the only daughter of Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece and Marie-Chantal Miller, unfollowed Peregrine on Instagram and removed photos of him from her account. “They grew apart,” a source told Our News Outlet’s Richard Eden at the time. “Their friends and family were hoping their union would lead to marriage, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

Olympia’s grandfather was King Constantine of Greece, a relative of Prince Philip who went into exile after the 1967 coup. Although the Greek monarchy was later abolished, the family has continued to use its royal titles. Signs of distance between Olympia and Peregrine had been building for months: they had not been seen publicly together since November 2022 and did not spend the summer holiday together after three consecutive years of doing so. Olympia instead travelled to Italy and Greece with family and friends, including actress Poppy Delevingne, who has been linked to her brother Prince Constantine Alexios. Peregrine, meanwhile, spent time with friends in Cow Neck, New York, visited Spain with family, and also attended the Burning Man festival in Nevada.

Preferring to stay out of the spotlight, Peregrine’s Instagram is private and is followed by Jamie Redknapp and Olivia Bentley. Sophie Turner is now listed among his followers. In August, it emerged that Peregrine’s father Lord Cowdray and his wife Marina, the Viscountess Cowdray, had separated after 36 years of marriage. ‘It’s highly acrimonious,’ a family friend claimed to Our News Outlet’s Richard Eden at the time. ‘Marina has walked out of the marriage. Michael [the viscount] is devastated. The New Age stuff has changed her.’

Marina, the daughter of late Tory MP John Cordle, was Michael’s second wife. He was previously married to Fritzi (Ellen) Erhardt, the daughter of a German industrialist. As well as Peregrine, the couple also share a daughter Eliza Pearson, 35, who married Ned Rocknroll – who changed his surname from Abel Smith – in 2009. Princess Beatrice was among the guests at the open-air pagan wedding ceremony led by a druid, but the pair went their separate ways just years later. Ned, a nephew of Virgin billionaire Sir Richard Branson , went on to marry actress Kate Winslet in 2012 and the couple are still together. Meanwhile, Eliza went on to marry Norwegian financier Leif Kvaal and they share three children together, according to Tatler.
