Claims about deteriorating conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln have spread rapidly, with reports alleging food shortages, plumbing failures, severe fatigue and collapsing morale during the carrier’s extended time at sea. Some accounts have gone further, suggesting sailors tried to jump overboard, while headlines such as “Conditions on US aircraft carrier at sea for more than 250 days raise alarms” have amplified the scrutiny.
Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), have pressed the military for explanations and sent formal letters demanding answers.
The U.S. military had already been preparing to rotate the USS Abraham Lincoln out of the region, with the USS George Washington scheduled to take its place in the Middle East deployment. That move would bring the Lincoln’s stretch at sea — now more than 260 days — to a close.
On Thursday evening, U.S. Central Command pushed back forcefully on the coverage, saying many of the claims being circulated were false.

CENTCOM said multiple outlets had repeated inaccurate claims over the previous 48 hours involving the USS Abraham Lincoln’s deployment to the Middle East. Among the allegations it rejected were a report that seven sailors died in a brawl aboard the carrier and separate suggestions of a recent surge in suicidal ideation. “These reports are FALSE,” the command stated.
According to the Pentagon, the Lincoln’s crew has one of the military’s highest reenlistment rates, at 84.4 percent. Officials also said a sailor who went overboard was quickly rescued. As for the claim that seven service members were killed in a knife fight, they noted that the story originated with Iranian state media.
CENTCOM provided additional details as well:

The Sailors and Marines of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group remain resilient and resolved after more than 260 days at sea, 10,000 aircraft flights, and 1.5 million pounds of ordnance expended. No service members aboard the aircraft carrier have died, and the one Sailor who fell overboard Aug. 3 was quickly and safely recovered. The rampant misreporting on Abraham Lincoln’s historic deployment is a disservice to our men and women in uniform and their loved ones.
