A 40-year-old woman was killed Friday after her SUV veered out of control and crashed into a backyard swimming pool on Long Island, according to police.
The driver, whose name has not been released, tore through a Hewlett neighborhood in Nassau County, hitting a tree and a parked vehicle before the 2023 GMC SUV plunged into a pool behind a home, officials said.
Police believe the woman had already been pulled from the vehicle by the time officers arrived at the residence on Elinor Road near Woodside Drive.
Investigators have not said where she was headed when the SUV began to careen off course.
