GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anthony Denilson Philippe-King, 26, was arrested early yesterday after police say he tried to enter several apartments at The Polos during the overnight hours.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, an officer was called to The Polos, located at 2330 SW Williston Road, after a witness reported that a man had been pulling on the front door of her apartment. The witness said the man tugged at the doorknob while repeatedly saying, “It’s Anthony.” After leaving her door, she reportedly watched him approach two other apartments in the complex.
The responding officer reported finding Philippe-King at another building within the same apartment complex, where he was walking toward an apartment that appeared to be vacant.
When the officer made contact with him, Philippe-King reportedly appeared intoxicated. Police said he was uncooperative and would not provide identification or explain why he was at the complex.
The officer determined there was probable cause to charge Philippe-King with prowling and placed him under arrest.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Philippe-King reportedly said someone had dropped him off at the apartment complex, though he said he did not know who it was. He also reportedly told police he was trying to find his way home, but said he lived at a different apartment complex.
During a search incident to arrest, officers reportedly found about 7.75 grams of marijuana and a baggie containing white residue that tested positive for cocaine and marijuana.
Philippe-King has been charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of drug equipment, and prowling. He has no local criminal history, and Judge Adam Lee set bail at $10,000.
