HBO has released another major trailer for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series, offering fans a fresh glimpse at what is shaping up to be one of the network’s most ambitious fantasy projects in years.
There is little doubt that “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” will be among the most talked-about releases of 2026. The series is also restoring the book’s original title, after the first film used “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” for American audiences. While the project has faced understandable scrutiny — including ongoing controversy surrounding author Joanne “J.K.” Rowling’s involvement and questions about rebooting the franchise so soon after the original films ended — the return to Hogwarts is still expected to draw enormous attention from longtime Harry Potter fans eager for more screen time in the wizarding world.
Of course, the story itself is not new. The difference is scale. HBO’s plan is for each season of the Harry Potter TV adaptation to focus on one of Rowling’s seven novels, allowing the series to explore subplots, character arcs, and world-building details that the films often had to compress or leave out entirely. The final movie installment, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” was famously split into two parts across 2010 and 2011 — both to handle the size of the story and, undeniably, to extend its box office power.

Anyone familiar with the first Harry Potter book or film already knows the foundation of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.” Harry is an orphan raised by his non-magical, or Muggle, aunt and uncle, who treat him with relentless cruelty. His life changes when mysterious letters begin arriving, inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Soon, Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid appears on the orders of headmaster Albus Dumbledore, pulling Harry out of the ordinary world and into a magical education filled with wand work, potion-making, enchanted creatures, and secrets far bigger than he ever imagined.
The new cast will introduce a fresh trio at the center of the franchise. Newcomer Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, following Daniel Radcliffe’s defining performance in the films. Arabella Stanton and Alistair Stout will portray Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, roles previously played by Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Nick Frost is set to take on Rubeus Hagrid, while John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore. The ensemble also includes Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Peter Serafinowicz as Peeves, Hogwarts’ mischievous resident poltergeist.
