Irvine golfer is battered over the head with his own club by golf course menace

Irvine police are searching for a man accused of violently attacking a golfer with the victim’s own club during a confrontation at a local course.

Authorities said the incident happened Aug. 29 at San Joaquin Golf Course, after a golfer confronted a man who had allegedly run across the playing area.

What began as a tense exchange quickly turned physical, according to the Irvine Police Department.

Investigators said the suspect chased the golfer as the victim tried to get away in a golf cart.

Police allege the man caught up to the cart, pulled a golf club from it and struck the golfer in the head before fleeing the course.

“The golfer tried to get away in his golf cart, but the suspect caught up, took a golf club from the cart, and struck the golfer in the head,” investigators said. “The suspect then fled the area.”

Irvine police have released photos of the suspected attacker and are urging anyone who may recognize him to come forward.
