An Illinois man accused of killing his former girlfriend was taken into custody after authorities say he fled across state lines.
Christian Flores, 54, is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on a first-degree murder charge. According to court records obtained by Chicago-area Fox affiliate WFLD, officers were called to the Elgin, Illinois, residence of 52-year-old Charity Geisel at 10:43 a.m. on Aug. 30, where they found the mother of three dead. Investigators later tracked Flores to Indiana, where he was arrested. Authorities identified Geisel as Flores’ ex-girlfriend.
Police said the Kane County coroner determined Geisel died from blunt and sharp force trauma suffered during what investigators described as a brutal attack.
Geisel’s loved ones spoke with WFLD about the loss, including her son, Matthew Geisel, and stepdaughter, Michelle Rice. Rice said she felt like the “luckiest person” to have Geisel in her life as a stepmother, adding that she viewed her simply as “mom” and “didn’t see her as anything else.”
Officials have not publicly disclosed a suspected motive in the alleged killing.
