“CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King appeared taken aback on air after a juror from the closely watched Lindsay Clancy murder trial said the panel’s lone Black member was the person who prevented a unanimous verdict.
Juror Paula Devlin was walking viewers through the makeup of the 12-person jury — nine women and three men — when she noted that 11 jurors were white and only one was a person of color, as the group ultimately deadlocked in the high-profile case.
King, 71, quickly pressed for clarification during Friday’s interview, asking whether the juror of color was male or female.
After Devlin said the juror was a man, King stumbled slightly as she followed up, asking whether the holdout juror was “a person of c— a Black man?”

Devlin confirmed that he was, prompting King to repeat the point in disbelief: “A Black man is the holdout juror?” Devlin again answered, “Yes.”
Clearly surprised by the revelation, King paused and told the audience, “Woah, I have to sit with that for just a second,” before collecting herself and moving ahead with the interview.
