A woman was found dead inside a trash can in the parking lot of a remote Brooklyn beach near the Belt Parkway on Wednesday afternoon, police and reports said.
The NYPD said officers responded to a 911 call at about 3 p.m. and discovered the woman unconscious and unresponsive in the Plumb Beach parking lot near the parkway and Knapp Street.
EMS pronounced her dead at the scene, according to police. Her identity had not been released.
Sources told ABC 7 that the woman’s body was located inside a trash can on the narrow peninsula extending from Sheepshead Bay, across the Rockaway Inlet from Breezy Point.
Investigators at the scene appeared to focus on a trash can as they gathered evidence.
The medical examiner’s office removed the body Wednesday night. It was covered with a white sheet as it was taken from the area.
The parking lot serves visitors to Plumb Beach, a small shoreline within Gateway National Recreation Area known for windsurfing and kiteboarding.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of the woman’s death, police said.
No arrests had been reported as of Wednesday night.
