A grand jury has determined that the death of 19-year-old Marly Kinney, who disappeared during a boat outing with friends and was later found in a Kentucky lake, was accidental.
Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Barry Brandon Bradley said in a Wednesday news release that investigators found no indication of a struggle or traumatic injury after Kinney’s body was recovered from Grayson Lake.
Prosecutors also reported that her belongings, including her swimsuit and jewelry, remained intact and showed no signs of being disturbed.
The medical examiner concluded that the findings were “consistent with drowning.” Kinney’s postmortem blood alcohol level was measured at 0.268%, Bradley said.
Ryan Blanke and Isabelle Addis, both 21, face charges of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. Prosecutors allege the pair provided Kinney with alcohol before the fatal incident, Bradley said.
Cameron Conley, 23, was previously charged by Kentucky State Police with operating a boat while intoxicated or under the influence, according to kentucky.com.
“Investigators found no evidence that Kinney’s death resulted from criminal conduct, and the Grand Jury sought no criminal charges in connection with her death,” Bradley wrote.
Kinney, who was from Ashland, was last seen at approximately 4 p.m. on June 24. Investigators said she had gone overboard from a rented pontoon boat while attempting to use the bathroom.
The approximately 10 friends on board did not immediately realize that she was missing, according to investigators.
“The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Kentucky Department Fish and Wildlife extend their deepest condolences to Ms. Kinney’s family, friends and loved ones,” Bradley concluded.
“We recognize the profound loss they have experienced and hope that the conclusion of this investigation provides some measure of clarity and closure.”
