President Trump said Saturday that he is forming a new “AI Force” and searching for an artificial intelligence “czar” to police potential misconduct in the rapidly expanding industry. The announcement came as he again dismissed concerns about AI superintelligence as another “hoax.”
Trump likened the growing anxiety over AI to other issues he has characterized as hoaxes, including the Russia investigation, “men in women’s sports” and his two impeachments.
He also described the “crazed Data Center attack” as an attempt to target the AI industry directly.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry. Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! However, we will also be looking for BAD” through the existing criminal justice system, Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term,” he added. Trump said he was evaluating “High I.Q. individuals” for the AI leadership position.
The announcement came one day before Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang, with tariffs and artificial intelligence expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
Bessent said the meeting would cover “both open and closed-weight models” of AI.
Trump’s proposal also arrives as lawmakers face mounting pressure to develop AI safeguards following a series of stark warnings from industry insiders.
