Man Arrested After Allegedly Threatening to Shoot Girlfriend

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rashad Breon Jones, 20, was arrested after allegedly battering his girlfriend and threatening to shoot her.

According to a Gainesville Police Department officer’s report, Jones became angry with the victim at about 9 a.m. on September 16. He allegedly flipped over an air mattress while she was lying on it, causing her to fall, and then choked her while threatening to shoot her with a pistol.

The victim told police that after Jones let go, he reached beneath the couch for the firearm. She said she told him she needed to submit job applications before leaving quickly. Rather than going to her destination, she drove to GPD headquarters to report the incident. The woman reportedly told officers she feared for her life because Jones had fired a shot at her during an earlier incident in Jacksonville.

Jones was arrested on September 18.

A witness reportedly told police she had seen Jones batter the victim on previous occasions. The witness also said she had seen him conceal a pistol in his clothing and attempt to hide it in different locations.

Jones, who is listed as a Jacksonville resident, faces charges of domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. He has no local criminal history. Judge Luis Bustamante ordered Jones held without bail pending a hearing on the State Attorney’s Office’s request to keep him detained without bail until trial. If that motion is denied, bail will be determined at the hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
