A Northern Virginia real estate agent was fatally shot inside her home Tuesday, allegedly by her husband, authorities said. The killing prompted a multistate manhunt that ended hours later when the suspect was arrested in Pennsylvania.
Roger Bradford, 60, of Aldie, faces charges of first-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the death of his wife, 54-year-old Lisa Bradford, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were sent to a residence in the 24000 block of Quimby Oaks Place shortly after noon after a relative contacted authorities. The relative reported that Bradford was allegedly involved in his wife’s death and asked deputies to check on the home, Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said at a news conference Tuesday.
When deputies arrived, they found Lisa Bradford dead. Her husband had already fled in a rental car, officials said.
Investigators tracked the vehicle as it headed north, leading authorities to search across Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania State Police found Bradford and arrested him in Bedford, Pennsylvania, at approximately 3:15 p.m. — about three hours after deputies first responded to the Aldie home, FOX 5 DC reported.
Authorities said they believe the shooting was domestic in nature. Investigators had not determined by Tuesday whether the couple had been involved in any previous domestic incidents.
“We just don’t know,” Chapman told reporters.
A handgun was used in the shooting, but the weapon had not been recovered as of Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators did not believe anyone else was inside the home when the shooting occurred.
The couple’s three children — two of whom attend college and one who is enrolled at a local high school — had been informed of their mother’s death.
Bradford also has some prior criminal history, although Chapman said he could not immediately provide additional information.
Lisa Bradford worked full time as a Northern Virginia real estate agent and had held a real estate license since 2008, according to her Compass profile.
She graduated from Miami University and worked for Ford Motor Company for 10 years before launching her real estate career.
Bradford remained in Pennsylvania awaiting extradition to Virginia. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
