Border czar Tom Homan dismissed calls to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement during an appearance Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “The Will Cain Show.”
Host Will Cain referenced Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., who has described ICE as “the single biggest threat” and called for the agency’s abolition, along with the creation of a separate civil immigration system.
Homan countered that ICE has arrested and removed hundreds of thousands of people he described as threats to public safety. He said more than 60% of the agency’s arrests involve individuals with criminal records, arguing that ICE enforcement has contributed to declining crime rates in some communities.
He also pointed to ICE’s role in narcotics and drug-smuggling investigations, as well as cases involving technology allegedly transferred overseas for use against U.S. military personnel. “They do human-trafficking investigations,” Homan added.
Homan said ICE is enforcing immigration laws passed by Congress and signed by the president. “If she doesn’t like what ICE is doing, then change the law,” he said, predicting that Democrats would not formally abolish the agency but could restrict its funding if they regain control. He also questioned who would locate and deport the millions of migrants he accused the Biden administration of releasing into the country. Homan claimed Democrats had remained silent during what he called a historic border crisis and accused them of believing that undocumented immigrants could eventually become Democratic voters.
