Former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn wiped sweat from his brow as a painfully sentimental love song he allegedly wrote for his mistress played during his murder trial Wednesday. Video from the courtroom showed onlookers trying to suppress their laughter.
Flynn, 40, is accused of killing his 37-year-old wife, Ashley Flynn, at their Ohio home in February. Prosecutors say he wrote two awkward songs for his alleged mistress, 24-year-old Alleigha Botner, and played them aloud in court.
“If somewhere you feel this, if somewhere you’re whole, know that you still own every piece of my soul,” one AI-produced song blared.
“So here’s to the third, and the us that we lost,” the lyrics continued, apparently referring to the anniversary of the day Flynn met Botner. “The third of every month I still say your name.”

As the song played, Ashley Flynn’s loved ones appeared to smirk in the courtroom while trying not to laugh. At one point, a visibly uncomfortable Caleb Flynn grabbed a tissue and dabbed his forehead.
“If the stars had aligned just a moment more, we’d be old on the porch counting dreams not closed doors,” the song continued.
Prosecutors allege the father of two fatally shot his wife in the head after carrying on a yearslong affair with Botner, then staged the scene to make it appear that a break-in had occurred.
