A suspect accused of stealing money from an ATM was captured on police video throwing thousands of dollars from an SUV window during a chase in Texas, newly released footage shows.
The pursuit unfolded at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 16 in Pearland, Texas.
The Pearland Police Department said officers were called to a bank after reports that a masked man was “making multiple transactions using several different cards.”
The man and another male then entered a separate vehicle and drove to a nearby parking lot.
When officers located the pair, the passenger exited the car. The driver, however, sped away, triggering a police pursuit.
During the chase, police video showed the driver reaching out of the moving SUV and throwing handfuls of cash onto the road.
Officers later recovered more than $6,000.
Police eventually stopped the SUV and arrested the driver.
The driver, Levon Steven Jr., of Florida, faces charges of evading arrest and tampering with evidence.
The passenger, Tarvares Givens, also from Florida, was charged with failure to identify.
Authorities said the investigation is continuing, and additional fraud-related charges may be filed.
Both men remain in custody at the Brazoria County Jail.
