A Tennessee man was allegedly shot in the leg and beaten so severely that several of his teeth were knocked out during an attack, authorities said. A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Bailey Jobin, 23, and Joseph Polk, 20, are each charged with aggravated robbery, according to Shelby County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
Polk also faces charges of using a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, and stealing property valued between $2,500 and $10,000.
According to an affidavit of complaint, the victim told authorities that Polk, Jobin and an unidentified man picked him up in a vehicle Wednesday. The group then drove him to a home on Pope Street in Memphis.
Investigators allege Jobin helped “orchestrate the luring” by persuading the victim to get into the vehicle. She reportedly sat beside him in the backseat, while the other men occupied the front.
When they arrived, another man drove up and allegedly confronted the victim over money he supposedly owed in connection with a vehicle. The man pulled him from the car and demanded payment, according to the affidavit.
The victim was allegedly forced to remove his clothes and ordered to go into the backyard. He refused, telling the group, “You’re going to have to kill me here.”
Polk then allegedly produced a handgun and shot the victim in the right thigh. Two other men reportedly punched him repeatedly in the head, knocking out several teeth.
The group also allegedly took the victim’s cellphone before leaving the scene.
The victim was transported to a local hospital as the Memphis Police Department investigated. Deputies later interviewed him and documented his account of the alleged robbery and assault.
Authorities have not released an update on the victim’s medical condition.
Jobin and Polk are scheduled to appear in court Monday.
