CHICAGO — Three years after 27-year-old Adam Moreno was shot and killed in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood, his mother and supporters returned to the scene Saturday to renew their call for answers in the unsolved case.
A vigil was held near 44th Street and Kedzie Avenue, where Moreno was killed in September 2023. Organizers posted fliers at the location as his mother, Juanita Arias, continued urging anyone with information to come forward.
“It’s just a lot of moms. We’re just waiting, waiting. Waiting for what? Every day you wake up and you just wait—wait for an answer. But there are no answers,” Arias said.
The anniversary brought Arias back to the painful moment she learned her son had died.
“Three years ago, I was in the hospital when they pronounced my son at 3:51,” she said.

Arias said Moreno was crossing the street when he was shot.
“My son was killed crossing the street—crossing the street! They had my son like a deer in headlights, dodging bullets. Nine times! They shot at my son nine times,” she said.
“I don’t understand. It just makes me numb,” Arias added.
