A woman was found dead with apparent injuries in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday morning, as police worked to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Officers were dispatched to the park after receiving a 911 call reporting an unconscious person at about 9:43 a.m., Fox 5 New York reported.
First responders located a woman believed to be in her 60s who was unconscious and unresponsive.

Police said the woman had suffered trauma to her body. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
Authorities have not identified the woman or disclosed additional information about her injuries or the events that led to her death, according to the outlet.

“Terrifying. I think of the park as a very safe place any time of day or night, so absolutely terrifying,” a frequent parkgoer said. “My heart goes out to her family and friends.”
The woman said she had never experienced anything in the park that made her feel unsafe. She described Sunday’s discovery as an isolated incident and said she intended to continue visiting the park every day.

A regular runner in the park said the news was distressing. “It’s terrible. It’s just terrible news,” the runner said, noting that the area is generally safe. Although the heightened police presence was unusual, the runner said it would not stop them from returning.
No arrests have been reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
