A group of UK partygoers dressed as superheroes chased a handbag thief through the night before scaling a towering wall to recover the stolen purse.
Sonni Mason, 25, was attending a friend’s party on Saturday night in a full Batman costume when he saw a handbag stolen inside a nightclub and immediately sprang into action, The Guardian reported.
“That’s what [Batman] is about. He’s a protector,” Mason, a London resident who works at a cafe, told the outlet.
“I hope I can inspire people to be a little bit more like Batman,” he added.
Mason and his friends, dressed as Mr. Fantastic and Poison Ivy, alerted nearby police before pursuing the suspect through the streets, according to the outlet.

With the superheroes close behind, the thief abandoned the stolen property and threw the handbag onto a high flint wall bordering the grounds of Norwich’s famous cathedral.
Still wearing his Batman suit, Mason climbed the wall, retrieved the handbag and returned it to its owner. The woman appeared ecstatic and grateful in video of the rescue posted to Mason’s TikTok account.
“I just hope more people will be inspired to do the same if they see someone being mugged or feeling uncomfortable on a night out,” Mason said.
“It shouldn’t take a superhero costume to make you want to do that,” he added.
A Norfolk police spokesperson confirmed the robbery and the Batman-costumed partygoer’s heroics.
