Taylor Swift claimed the MTV VMAs’ top prize in 2026, dedicating the record-setting victory to country icon Dolly Parton as she became the ceremony’s most decorated artist with 32 wins.
The 36-year-old superstar won the coveted Video of the Year Moon Person for The Fate of Ophelia, using her acceptance speech to pay tribute to the legendary musician.
“I want to dedicate this award to one person, without whom this would not be happening,” Swift said. “That person is the ultimate showgirl, Dolly Parton.”
Swift’s reference to a “showgirl” echoed the title of her hit album, The Life of a Showgirl, whose deluxe edition arrived Friday. The Video of the Year category was her only nomination of the night.
The singer continued by praising Parton’s songwriting and vivid approach to storytelling.
“Every song she wrote was so vivid and rich,” Swift said. “Listening to her music feels like watching the greatest music video you have ever seen, every time you hear one of her songs.”

Parton died at age 80 on August 25 following a brief battle with undisclosed cancer.
Swift went on to commend Parton for the grace, joy, love and gratitude she brought to her life and career.
“Everything that happened in her life or career, she turned back into love, gratitude and appreciation for her fans,” Swift said. “I was lucky enough to be one of them, and I always will be.”
The Style singer closed with an emotional reflection: “We were all incredibly lucky to share this planet with Dolly Parton for a time.”
Earlier in the ceremony, Swift accepted the inaugural Artist Director Honors from her friend Dakota Johnson, adding another milestone to an already historic evening.
The latest victories ended Swift’s tie with Beyoncé, 45, for the most MTV VMAs awards. Both artists entered Sunday’s ceremony with 30 trophies apiece.
Because Beyoncé was not nominated this year, Swift emerged as the event’s sole record-holder.
During her acceptance speech, Swift credited her fans for making music videos so rewarding. “The main reason I love writing and directing music videos is that you make it so much fun,” she said.

The 38-year-old country singer performed Parton’s iconic 1974 track I Will Always Love You which left fans on social media in tears.

Musgraves has previously shared the stage with her hero Parton as they performed a rendition of the country legend’s 1977 hit Here You Come Again at the 2019 Grammy Awards alongside Katy Perry.
