Inside a stunning $1.4 million mansion in Virginia, the marriage of popular realtor Lisa Bradford was reportedly unraveling—yet friends said she never revealed the turmoil unfolding in her private life.
The 54-year-old mother of three was found fatally shot inside the sprawling Aldie property last Tuesday, only days before her 22nd wedding anniversary.
Her husband, 60-year-old data center consultant Roger “Paul” Bradford, has been charged with her murder.
Newly reviewed court records have shed light on the intense personal and financial pressures the couple was facing before Lisa’s death.
Roger spent 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud in a construction-related kickback case. In a later court filing, he said the conviction had devastated his finances, harmed his mental health and brought his marriage close to collapse.
“My marriage with my wife Lisa is now headed to divorce as the pressures and injustice of this nightmare took its toll on our marriage and our life together,” he wrote in a declaration filed earlier this year as part of an unsuccessful appeal.
He called Lisa an “incredible woman” and wrote that the possibility of losing their marriage was “too much to bear.”
Still, Lisa’s friends said they had no indication that the couple’s relationship was in such serious trouble.

Christy Stuart described the killing as an “absolute shock.” Speaking to Fox 5 , she said Lisa had never suggested that her marriage was in trouble.
“She was always smiling,” Stuart said. “No matter every time I saw her, she would greet me with a smile and a hug.”
The killing has left friends and colleagues struggling to reconcile the Lisa they knew—a successful Compass realtor, devoted mother and community volunteer—with the violent circumstances surrounding her death.
Authorities said Lisa was shot at the family’s home on Quimby Oaks Place, in an affluent suburban community about 30 miles west of Washington, D.C.
Shortly after noon last Tuesday, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a relative who reported that Roger Bradford had contacted the family and indicated that he “was responsible or involved in the homicide of his wife,” Sheriff Mike Chapman said.
Roger allegedly escaped in a rental vehicle, prompting a manhunt that moved through Maryland and into Pennsylvania. Officers eventually arrested him in Bedford, Pennsylvania.
He later waived extradition and told a court that he understood he was wanted in Virginia, clearing the way for his return to face the charges.
The handgun investigators believe was used in Lisa’s killing has not been found, according to the sheriff’s office.

The killing was an explosive end to a marriage Lisa herself had once described in glowing terms.
Before Roger Bradford was sentenced in the federal fraud case, she wrote a letter to the judge detailing the difficult childhood her husband had endured and painting him as a loving father determined to create a different life for his own children.
She called him a ‘people pleaser.’
‘He is the dad who always volunteers to coach basketball,’ she wrote. ‘He is the husband who puts his dreams aside to help me reach mine.’
But Roger later described a dramatic deterioration in their life together.
In his 2026 declaration, he said his time behind bars had been ‘extraordinarily difficult’ and claimed his existing mental health problems only worsened in prison.
He also wrote that legal bills had exhausted his savings, putting an enormous financial burden on Lisa and straining their relationship.
Roger also described himself in court filings as a ‘gun enthusiast’ who was upset that his felony conviction meant he had lost his right to possess firearms.
His data center consulting business also went out of business earlier this month.

There is no indication that Lisa’s friends knew about the extent of the marital strain.
Instead, they remember a woman whose kindness appeared to extend far beyond her family.
The Dulles Area Association of Realtors said colleagues across Northern Virginia had been left devastated.
‘People are struggling to accept that something like this could have happened to someone that they knew and respected,’ CEO Ann Rushlo told The Washington Post.
Lisa was known for turning real estate clients into friends and mentoring others in the profession.
One former client remembered her as the friend who would be ‘the first to message when the Chiefs win a big game’ or send a picture of a beautiful bathtub because she knew they would appreciate it.
Fellow realtor Megan Duke Radkowski highlighted the haunting irony of a woman who sold homes allegedly being killed inside her own.
‘In real estate, we spend a lot of time training for the stranger. We share our locations. We meet new clients carefully,’ Radkowski wrote.
‘But none of those precautions protect someone from the person who already has a key to their home.’
Lisa had also supported LAWS, a local organization providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Radkowski cautioned against drawing conclusions about why Lisa supported the organization, saying whether it was simply a cause important to her or had some deeper significance was unknown.

On Sunday evening, friends gathered at the Hal and Berni Hanson Nature Center in Aldie for an emotional vigil.
The sound of a cello filled the gathering as Lisa’s friend Jerien Okoh-Tisch performed in her memory.
The music carried a particularly poignant significance as Lisa had talked about learning the instrument herself.
‘We actually had talked about her taking cello lessons from me,’ Okoh-Tisch said to NBC Washington.
‘She was intrigued, and she said she would like to learn ‘Ave Maria’ on the cello; she’d like to play that one day.’
Instead, her friend was now playing in her memory.
‘She was such a light in our lives and such a light in this world,’ Okoh-Tisch said. ‘Such an amazing pillar of the community in so many ways, and just such a loving mother to her children. She loved her children so much.’
For those left behind, much of the anguish is now focused on the couple’s three children, two of whom are in high school and a third is attending college.
‘This is a tragedy beyond words,’ neighbor Katrina Foard said to NBC4. ‘It doesn’t make any sense.’
‘All we can do is pray for these children, who now have to live with this trauma for the rest of their lives,’ she added.
‘I wish I could pray for him. I’m not there yet. A lot of us just pray for the children and for their lifelong healing.’
