An Arizona boxer allegedly beat his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son with his fists and possibly a sandal, inflicting devastating injuries that included a lacerated stomach and severed blood vessels in the intestines. The child, police say, later died from the trauma.
“According to the medical examiner, it takes a substantial amount of force to lacerate a stomach,” an arrest affidavit states. The examiner determined that the boy’s injuries were consistent with child abuse. The child is referred to in the document as Porter’s “girlfriend’s child.”
“Based on the injuries, no one could have survived the severity,” the affidavit states, according to a copy obtained this week by Law&Crime.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the family’s Mesa apartment at about 4 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report that a child needed medical attention. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities say the autopsy revealed rib fractures in various stages of healing. The examination also found a lacerated liver, a transected pancreas, a lacerated stomach and extensive internal bleeding, including “500 ml of blood in the victim’s abdomen,” according to the affidavit.

Police also accuse Porter of assaulting another child in the home, a 1-year-old. Investigators allege he spanked the child and struck him in the mouth, rib cage and abdomen. Porter’s knuckles reportedly showed signs of having been used to hit both children.
“There was obvious bruising to his knuckles,” the affidavit says.
At Porter’s first court appearance this week, a prosecutor from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said he “hit and punched the 2-year-old victim multiple times with either hands and/or sandal,” according to AZ Family.
Porter’s connection to the 1-year-old has not been disclosed. He faces charges of first-degree murder and child abuse, and a judge set his bond at $1.5 million.
Prosecutors argued in court filings that Porter would be a flight risk if released. They pointed to the seriousness of the allegations and said he appeared to avoid contacting law enforcement while investigators were searching for him. Authorities also allege that he disabled his location sharing on social media during that time.
