A Texas woman allegedly struck her former boyfriend and his new girlfriend with an SUV after the two women exchanged “derogatory remarks,” authorities said.
Dionisiah Edwards-Carpeal, 36, faces murder and aggravated assault charges. Police allege she drove into her ex-boyfriend and his new partner, killing the woman.
Police responded Monday to a parking lot on Datapoint Dr. in San Antonio after receiving reports of a fight, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by local CBS affiliate KENS. Officers found the female victim, whose identity had not been publicly released, suffering from life-threatening injuries. She later died at a hospital.
Witnesses told investigators they saw the woman being struck and run over by a silver SUV.
The affidavit said blood evidence at the scene was “consistent with a person having been dragged across the pavement.”
Investigators interviewed three witnesses, including Edwards-Carpeal’s former boyfriend. He told police that the SUV also hit him, but he rolled off the hood and escaped serious injury. The man said he and Edwards-Carpeal had been in a relationship for six years before breaking up. They continued communicating afterward, but he stopped responding when he began dating the victim.
The former couple encountered Edwards-Carpeal Monday as the man and the victim walked home after stopping at a Wendy’s restaurant. Police said Edwards-Carpeal followed them in her SUV and tried to speak with her ex-boyfriend. A security guard approached the vehicle, and the man reportedly said Edwards-Carpeal was “following and harassing them.”
According to the affidavit, Edwards-Carpeal and the victim traded “derogatory remarks.” The victim and the man then began walking away. When they crossed in front of the SUV, Edwards-Carpeal allegedly accelerated, striking both of them. Police said the victim was dragged beneath the vehicle for a short distance before being run over.
Witnesses told police that Edwards-Carpeal stopped and looked at the victim before driving away from the scene.
The security guard photographed the SUV, helping police identify Edwards-Carpeal as the alleged suspect.
Edwards-Carpeal was booked into jail and posted $400,000 bond Tuesday. A judge ordered her to remain under house arrest and wear a GPS monitor. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2027.
