Several fights erupted after a high school football game as roughly 250 teenagers gathered around nearby businesses, including Raising Cane’s and Taco Bell.
FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. — Fairview Heights police arrested two teenagers after a series of fights broke out near a Raising Cane’s restaurant following local high school football games.
Police said an officer monitoring the gathering was notified by a Raising Cane’s employee that a fight had begun inside the restaurant.
By the time the officer arrived, the two girls reportedly involved in the altercation had already left the area.
The officer then encountered a larger fight near Taco Bell and allegedly saw a juvenile male punching a juvenile female. The male was taken into custody, according to police.
After more officers arrived, they heard two other juvenile males arguing. One followed an officer’s direction to leave, but the other allegedly refused and moved toward the officer with his fists raised, police said.
The juvenile reportedly tripped over a bush and fell before officers arrested him. Police said he resisted during the arrest.
Authorities identified the second arrested juvenile as the brother of the first.
A third juvenile male was briefly detained, but officers released him after determining that his involvement in the incident was minor.
The two arrested juveniles were taken to the police department, processed and released to their parents under Illinois law. They are expected to face charges through the juvenile court system.
One parent was also cited for allegedly failing to supervise a child.
“If you are not inside buying a meal or product you will be charged and arrested. The parent will also be charged with failure to supervise with a mandatory court appearance,” the police department said in a social media post. “Signs were posted and the entire area is being recorded with video and License Plate Readers. MORE CHARGES AGAINST JUVENILES WILL BE ISSUED AFTER VIDEO IS FULLY REVIEWED. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.”
