CNN’s boss will remain as Paramount and WBD merge into Skydance

CNN CEO Mark Thompson will continue leading the news network after Paramount completes its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery this week. In a memo to employees, Thompson said he believes the newly combined company will “fully support the principle and practice of the kind of independent news that CNN has always stood for,” according to The New York Times. His continued tenure was announced alongside details of the merged company’s executive leadership team.

The entertainment company also outlined several other leadership appointments. HBO CEO Casey Bloys will become chief content officer for Skydance’s streaming operation, while Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg will oversee Skydance’s film studios. George Cheeks will lead its television business. Bari Weiss, named editor-in-chief of CBS News last year, will remain in that position despite declining ratings.

Paramount expects to finalize the acquisition on Tuesday.
